Project Description

Eldorado Crescent, Cheltenham

The old galley kitchen and external wall was removed to make way for an extension, with stepped levels, to allow for an open plan living area, kitchen and dining room. Old and new materials were used to marry contemporary design with the classic features of this late 19th century building.

The main design focus was how to incorporate the fall of the land outside, without looking out of proportion.

By removing an external wall and extending to the rear of the property, this house went from having a dining room and small galley kitchen, to having a cosy winter snug complete with a contemporary log burner, a new light summer snug at the garden level, as well as an open kitchen and dining area. The roof connecting these three levels was constructed of lead line (itself at differing levels), and glass reinforced plastic (GRP).

Project Phase 1: Preparation

The single-story galley kitchen that extended from the back of the house was demolished, prior to reducing the ground level and installing new foundations. The walls were built with reclaimed bricks that were salvaged from a local reclamation yard.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

In April 2016 we appointed Russell Lloyd Developments to add a complex large extension to our home. The end result was beyond our expectations, both David and Jon worked with us to really understand what we wanted. The quality of the build and internal finish was first class and we felt completely happy to leave them with keys to the house as the rest of the Russell Lloyd team were very trustworthy and professional at all times
